Mr. Victor Tze-Fai TAM, Conductor

Victor TAM is the Founder and Chairman of the Hong Kong Wind Philharmonia, the Hong Kong Youth Wind Philharmonia and the Hong Kong Junior Wind Philharmonia.  After graduating from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 1992, Victor was awarded the Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarship to study at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music as a student of James Caldwell where he received the ˇ§Oboe Artistry Awardˇ¨ upon graduation.  He then furthered his graduate studies at the Indiana University School of Music with a full scholarship and teaching assistantship with Marc Lifschey.  While at Indiana University he also studied chamber music with Myron Bloom, Kim Walker, and James Campbell and has also studied privately with John Mack.   As a student, Victor has had the opportunity to participate in numerous international music festivals including the Asian Youth Orchestra; the Mozarteum at Salzburg, Austria, as a student of Hansjorg Schellenberger; the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival where he studied with Ronald Roseman and the Sarasota Music Festival where he worked with Joseph Robinson and William Bennett.

After graduating from Indiana University, Victor was appointed Principal Oboe of the Suwon Philharmonic Orchestra in Korea with whom he performed until 1999.  While with the Suwon Philharmonic he has performed extensively throughout Korea and on concert tours to Thailand, England and Spain.  As a performer, Victor has also served as guest principal oboe with the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, and the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra with whom he went on a concert tour of China, and the Pusan Philharmonic in Korea with whom he has also performed as soloist in 1997. 

Mr. Tam is currently on the faculty of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, the Hong Kong Baptist University and serves as band director and faculty tutor at numerous schools throughout Hong Kong.  In addition to his conducting and pedagogical activities, Victor continues to perform as an oboist throughout Asia.
